By the way, cabbage is one of my favorite vegetables to cook with. It is great in stir fry, braised as a side dish, or fermented as Sauerkraut.

How To Make Our Easy Cabbage Fritters

shredded cabbage in a bowl

We start by finely chopping our cabbage. You can also use a grater to shred the cabbage.

Place the shredded cabbage into a bowl and sprinkle over some salt. Cover and let it sit for around 30 minutes. The salt draws out the water from the cabbage and makes the cabbage soft and more easily digestible.

Important: Leave the liquid in the bowl. It will bind the ingredients together.

As we wait for the cabbage to soften, let’s prepare the rest of our ingredients.

So I use the time to grate a carrot (optional) and get our spice blend ready. For the spices, I used cumin, paprika, chili powder, and turmeric. As I have mentioned before, please use spices you like e.g. if you don’t like chili simply omit it and use only paprika.

Then, I blend the spices with my gram (chickpea) flour.

After the 30 minutes are over, I added the grated carrot to the cabbage and also some chopped fresh coriander. Again, if you don’t like coriander, you could use parsley instead.

Now it is time to add our flour spice mix to the chopped vegetables. If the batter is too thick, stir in a little bit of water until you reach your desired consistency.

To pan-fry our delicious cabbage fritters, I use a non-stick fry pan. With that being said, I use some cooking oil to get a nice crunchy result.

Fry the fritters on both sides until golden brown. It takes around 5 minutes to fry them. Keep them warm until you use all of the batter.
