Our Quick Tips To Make The Best Banana Cake With Cream Cheese Frosting
Tip 1: For a rich banana flavor only use overripe bananas. Yes, that’s right, the ones no one wants to eat anymore. Bananas that look dark and have brown spots. The more overripe the better.
Tip 2: Double the recipe! Banana cake keeps well in the fridge and also freezes really well. A slice of our moist banana cake with delicious cream cheese frosting makes a great addition to your kid’s lunch boxes. And why not take some slices to work to share with your workmates? They’ll love you for it.
Tip 3: Try not to overmix the dough! I use a spatula or tablespoon when adding the flour to the wet ingredients and gently fold it together.
Tip 4: Use my recipe for the best banana cake and add your twist to it. That means you could add cinnamon for instance to change the taste; you could add walnut pieces or even chocolate chips.
Instead of a cream cheese frosting, you could make a chocolate ganache or buttercream frosting. Instead of frosting, you might only want to top it with powdered sugar. The choices are yours.
Tip 5: For the cream cheese frosting, I only used 4 tablespoons of powdered sugar. I do like a thinner consistency for my cream cheese frosting. If you like it thicker, please feel free to add more powdered sugar.
Some FAQ’s About Our Super Moist Banana Cake
Can I make cupcakes with the banana cake batter?
Of course, you can. You only have to remember to adjust the baking time. I would check after 20 minutes if they are baked or not. An easy test is to insert a wooden skewer. If the skewer is dry, the cupcakes are ready. By the way, I use the same testing method with any cake, muffins, or cupcakes I make.
What baking dish is best to use?
For my recipe, I used a rectangular baking dish (9″x13″) because I wanted to use the cake for my kid’s lunches. I find it easier to cut the banana cake when it has a square or rectangular shape. If I make the cake for a birthday party, I prefer a round 9″ springform pan.
Can I freeze the banana cake?
Yes, the banana cake freezes well (without frosting though). I would suggest doubling the recipe and making either two cakes or one cake and 12 cup cakes for example. That way you always have something at home for unexpected guests.
Our beautiful banana cake also keeps fresh for a few days in the fridge.
What is your recommended oven temperature?
I bake the banana cake at 350 Degrees Fahrenheit/180 Degrees Celcius for around 40 minutes. Please check after 30 minutes because each oven is a bit different,
Why do I need to use overripe bananas?
The quick answer here is that overripe bananas are the key factors for a rich banana flavor in the banana cake. What a great way of using overripe bananas no one wants to eat!
