My easy sweet potato bake dish is ideal if you need a quick dinner recipe or a satisfying lunch or brunch meal idea. This tasty and creamy sweet potato bake is ready in 30 minutes and only requires 4 ingredients.

For this morish recipe, I am using two types of sweet potatoes, an orange and a purple one. I just adore the color combination. But do not fret if you have neither available. Use whatever type of sweet potato you have at hand.

The sweet potato is high in fiber and has many health benefits. But more importantly, sweet potatoes taste so delicious.

Only 4 Ingredients You Said?

Yes, it can’t get easier than this. You need, of course, sweet potatoes, heavy cream, cheese for the topping, and – Drumroll, please! – a sachet with onion soup.

Quite frankly, I am tempted to call it my ‘secret’ ingredient. Why, you may ask. Because we don’t need to add any spices or herbs to achieve a flavorful, tasty, and creamy sweet potato bake.

I like to enhance the dish with a touch of freshly ground pepper for its earthy flavor. Additionally, I incorporate a sliced onion into my potato bake, which is optional.

Not everyone likes onion but again, I add onions to almost every savory dish I make.

How To Make Our Easy Sweet Potato Bake

Our easy sweet potato bake is the perfect side dish

  1. Peel And Cut The Sweet Potatoes

    To peel the sweet potatoes, I like to use a vegetable peeler. Alternatively, you could also leave the skin on. Just make sure, to scrub the sweet potatoes thoroughly.
    Then, cut the potatoes into quarters and slice them as finely as possible. If you like to add an onion, peel the onion, cut it in half, and slice thinly. The first step is done!

  2. Arrange The Sweet Potatoes

    For my sweet potato bake, I am using two different types of sweet potatoes. So I try to arrange them equally as you can see in the picture. By the way, instead of a round baking dish, you can also use a rectangular baking dish. Feel free to use whatever you have available.

  3. Pour Over The Soup/Cream Mixture

    In a large container whisk together the heavy cream and onion soup powder and simply pour it over the layered sweet potatoes. Note: it will look like as if there is not enough liquid. But I assure you, it is enough.
    Now top it with our grated cheese and just like that, it is ready to go in the oven.

  4. Bake And Enjoy!

    Bake our delicious sweet potato dish for 30 minutes at 180 Degrees Celcius/350 Degrees Fahrenheit. Garnish with fresh parsley and enjoy!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 large sweet potato I use 2 different types
  • 1 onion optional
  • 330 ml heavy cream (11 ounces)
  • 1 packet onion soup powder
  • ½ to 1 cup grated cheese of your choice

Instructions
 

  • Peel the sweet potatoes, quarter them, and cut them into thin slices.

  • In a large measuring cup, whisk the cream and onion soup powder until well combined.

  • Grease the baking dish, and arrange the slices of potatoes and onion until you have used them all. You can watch the video here.
  • Pour the cream/soup mix over the layer of potatoes and onion. Top with the grated cheese.
    ½ to 1 cup grated cheese of your choice
  • Bake in a preheated oven (180 ℃/ 350℉) for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Enjoy with a salad on the side as a main meal or serve as a side dish with your favorite protein. Bon Appetit!
